Workers’ Compensation
Workers’ Compensation is an insurance plan provided by the employer. An employee is covered by workers’ compensation beginning with his or her first day at work. This insurance coverage applies irrespective if the employee works full-time or part-time. Workers’ compensation insurance provides an employee who is injured at work while performing his job duties with several benefits which include medically necessary care and treatment that arises out of that injury.
It is very important that you report a work injury to your employer as soon as possible. The workers’ compensation laws require that an injured worker report his injury to his employer within thirty (30) days of the accident. We also recommend that you do not talk to the insurance company representative or sign any insurance document without first consulting with a workers’ compensation attorney.
Injured employees may need a workers’ compensation attorney when the workers’ compensation insurance company denies his or her benefits because it is alleged that your injuries developed not at work or that your injuries are not as serious. A compensable work injury can result from a strike, a blow, or a slip and fall. It can also result from catching an occupational disease or an exposure to an occupational hazard. It can also result from a repetitive trauma such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
